The Empowering Young Mothers to Achieve (EYMA, pronounced "Emma") Program
In early 2008, La Paloma Family Services received a grant through the Department of Health & Human Services-Administration for Children and Families to provide support and offer a safe haven to local homeless or displaced young women, under the age of 21, who are facing the challenges of caring for themselves and their child(ren).
Working from a philosophy of positive youth development aligned with La Paloma Family Services’ Mission Statement, the Empowering Young Mothers to Achieve (EYMA) Program works with non-system young mothers as they make positive changes in their lives and develop attributes that will result in a successful future.
Services offered through the EYMA Program include:
- A Safe Place to Live at the Amparo Maternity Group Home
- Case Management to indentify individual goals
- Weekly Parenting and Life Skills Classes
- Assistance with identifying and completing educational goals
- Support with employment and career planning
- Referrals for appropriate community resources as needed
- Individual/Group Counseling
- One-on-One Mentoring
- Help with finding appropriate childcare
- And much more!
